The Inmarsat network is split into three satellite constellations.
The Inmarsat network supports voice phone calls, SMS text messaging, circuit-switched data, fax, Standard IP and Streaming IP.
Telephone calls from the terrestrial telephone network (PSTN) to an Inmarsat network are made using the Inmarsat +870 single number access code, which is the same as a country code number.
The full Inmarsat E&E numbering format, a dual T digit format, is as follows:

Geographic and National numbers can also be used for GX Numbering. In the case a Geographic or National number is used it will be in E.164 format with the Country Code, National Destination Code and National Significant Number reflecting the country and type of number used.

Inmarsat is connected to most international telecoms carriers.
It is the responsibility of the telecoms carriers worldwide to ensure they have put in place arrangements to switch voice calls between the PSTN and the Inmarsat network.

To assist carriers in ensuring that their access is properly configured, two test numbers have been established within the BGAN network:
For BGAN voice: +870 77 210 9000
For BGAN ISDN and fax: +870 78 210 9000
To assist carriers in ensuring that their access is properly configured, a test number has been established within the GX network:
For Global Xpress voice + 870 23 199 9999
Each number provides access to a suitable voice announcement.
Inmarsat is a full member of the GSMA and supports roaming SMS connectivity.
Inmarsat can send SMS text to more than 1,000 telecommunications carriers globally.
Inmarsat has contracted SAP 365 as the SMS Hubbing partner and all SMS should flow through SAP.

It is the responsibility of the sending party carrier to send SMS to Inmarsat. More than 500 carriers can successfully send to Inmarsat.
An originating carrier should open the range +870 and deliver the SMS to SAP 365.
Inmarsat has contracted Comfone as the Roaming Hub partner and all roaming arrangements should be made with Comfone. Inmarsat uses Comfone for all clearing and signalling.

Inmarsat has meet-me points in Amsterdam (Telecity) , Sydney (HMSP/NTTICT) and New York (Hudson Street).
Customers can connect to any of these nodes in order to access the Inmarsat global backbone.
