Inmarsat is proud to once again be Diamond sponsor of London International Shipping Week (LISW), a sponsorship we have held since the advent of this leading bi-annual maritime event.
During LISW we will be hosting two industry-shaping events at our City Road headquarters in Londonm, and online, focused on the important topics of crew welfare and digitalisation.
The first event on 13 September is entitled Meeting the welfare needs of seafarers in a digital age. The half-day session will be run by the four main LISW charities - Mission to Seafarers, Sailors’ Society, ISWAN, Stella Maris and Seafarers UK - charities we have worked closely with throughout the emerging COVID pandemic last year in an effort to help improve seafarer welfare and connect crew isolated at sea for months at a time.
The day will include a keynote from John Adam, Vice President, International Chamber of Shipping, and Ronald Spithout, Inmarsat Maritime President. In addition, Nick Chubb from Thetius will detail findings from our second Inmarsat-sponsored crew welfare report – A Fair Future for Seafarers?

The second event on 14 September, dedicated to digitalisation, and entitled The role of technology in a disrupted world, will run throughout and include a session hosted by Smart Maritime Network on digital transformation and a panel session focusing on autonomous and remotely operated technology.
We are also delighted to welcome back world-leading futurist Gerd Leonhard for a third time.
