CONNECTING FORCES ON FOOT

Inmarsat BGAN Patrol is the world's first BGAN terminal designed for use on foot by soldiers and emergency services. Featuring the Hughes 9203 BGAN Communications-on-the-Move (COTM) terminal, this lightweight and compact device allows users to stay continuously connected.

The BGAN Patrol terminal effortlessly auto points and connects to our resilient and reliable ELERA satellite network without the need for operator intervention, and it integrates seamlessly with the  user’s existing communication systems and batteries.

BGAN Patrol extends Line of Sight (LOS) IP networks and enables Beyond-Line-of-Sight (BLOS) communications independently of terrestrial networks. The device can support up to 200 kbps standard background IP via ethernet or Wi-Fi, enabling a group of local users to stay connected whilst dismounted.

The BGAN Patrol terminal provides optimal connectivity above 30 degrees elevation towards the satellite. It can be connected to tactical handheld devices, enabling data for applications that are vital for gaining an operational advantage over adversaries in the field.

Typical applications include:

  • The enablement of Battle Management Systems (BMS) like Tactical Assault Kit (TAK) and SitaWare
  • Bridging of Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) and BLOS radio networks
  • Blue Force Tracking (BFT) of allied forces on live maps
  • Sharing of laser range finder data to provide an exact distance to long-range targets for snipers, artillery, and air support
  • Situational awareness gathering and reception to maximise coordination and calling for casualty medical evacuation (MedEvac).

Civil & emergency services

For emergency service personnel, BGAN Patrol enables a continuous connection on the ground to the command centre, sending situational awareness information, and reducing exposure during missions.

Typical applications include:

  • Bridging of MANET and BLOS radio networks
  • Situational awareness gathering and reception to maximise coordination
  • Calling for MedEvac
  • Connectivity between emergency service agencies with personnel at ground zero
